- Anatomy of the guitar -
Here are the main bits and pieces that make up a guitar.
Apart from the electronics, both acoustic and electric guitars are pretty much the same. The principle behind guitars is simple: to stretch precision made wires (the strings) down the length of a Finger Board and tighten them to certain pitches. The strings are held up and stopped at one end by the nut, the other end by the saddle, which is part of the bridge. They're fastened at one to the bridge and at the other to the tuning pegs, or machine heads. The frets, which are wires inserted into the fretboard, allow the player to accurately shorten or lengthen the strings with the finger tips so as to change the pitches of the notes and make music. The tension applied to the strings is adjusted with the machine heads. The tighter the tension, the higher the pitch.Acoustic guitars get their volume from the Soundboard.
When the player twangs a string, it vibrates and passes that vibration onto the soundboard via the Bridge. It's the vibrating soundboard that we hear as 'guitar'. The soundhole allows the sound generated inside the body to escape and add to the overall tone.
Electric guitars get their volume from the pickups, which are essentially microphones. The vibrating strings affect the magnets in the pickups which send a signal to an amplifier down a cable which amplifies the signal and sends it to the speakers, and we hear the sound as 'electric guitar'. .

"Storyville" was a blues-rock band formed in 1994 in Austin, Tx. - Drummer; Chris Layton & bassist; Tommy Shannon - former members of The "Arc Angels" & the rhythm section for Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Double Trouble", formed the band with Malford Milligan after a
jam session at Antone's. After releasing an album "Bluest Eyes"on November Records in 1994, the band won a total of nine Austin Music awards; they became stalwarts on the local music scene and toured nationally. They subsequently signed to major label; Atlantic Records,
for whom they recorded two albums - "A Piece Of Your Soul" & "Dog Years" before breaking up. The single "Born Without You", from their 1998 release Dog Years, reached #28 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. David Grissom & David Holt from John
Mellencamp's Band also played guitar in this hard-hitting
Rockin' Blues Band...

We just recently moved from Florida back to the Tulsa area after nearly 20 years gone, & we brought all our stuff with us ! We're looking to provide the Tulsa Area Music Community with a new way to communicate, hook up, link up, and DO things. What I've found is a very receptive, plentiful and talented Musician & Performer population and there seems to be no resistance to wanting to get it together and go OUT. Not to say indoor venues are any lessor and I am actively seeking them as well - the main thing is to coordinate the talent and get venues (indoor or out) for expression. We have a system of nearly 15,000 watts, lighting, instruments, know how and a real good idea & passion for how to have a good time putting on musical events ! - We WILL ALL have some fun !!

Genesis
Leon Russell was living in town, with people like
George Harrison and Eric Clapton dropping by to jam.
The likes of JJ Cale and David Teegarden were
recording hits that popped onto the national charts.
Any number of rock bands, including one fronted
by Gary Lewis and Billy Cowsill, were making their
homes here, and making the clubs at night.
And Mazeppa was on television.
For three brief years, Gailard Sartain was Dr. Mazeppa Pompazoidi on the late night weekend show
"The Uncanny Film Festival and Camp Meeting." Beginning in April of 1970, Sartain and his cohort Jim Millaway, aka Sherman Oaks, created wildly inventive, hip, off-trail humor that predated the national "Saturday Night Live" by several years, wrapping it around showings of old horror movies and Busby Berkeley musicals.
A year after the show's inception, Sartain and Millaway were joined by Tulsa's Gary Busey, as Teddy Jack Eddy, whose own manic presence added immeasurably to the show. And an ever-shifting cast of supporting characters wove in and out throughout the program's three years, adding to the always-present air of unpredictability.
The Mazeppa show rolled along until the summer of 1973, after which Sartain joined the cast of the "Hee Haw" TV show, and sequed into what has become a rock-solid career as a feature-film character actor.
As the years have rolled by, the Mazeppa episodes have taken on the quality of myth. Much of thas is due, of course, to the inventiveness and imagination of the principals, and the sheer entertainment value of what they got over the airwaves. Part, also, is due to the fact that there was no home video--as we know it--during the Mazeppa show's run,
and so there's been no way to see the stuff again.
"Unfortunately," said Steve Todoroff recently,
"this was before VCRs. So, all people have had are
fond memories."
- By John Wooley / TULSA WORLD / October 2, 1992

Originally in a group called: Kid Jonny Lang & The Big Bang, independently-released the debut; "Smokin" in 1995. "Lie To Me", the 1997 followup album propelled by a hit title track, introduced the 16-year-old Lang to a nationwide audience. The young guitarists affinity for funk, soul and gospel is quite apparent on this best selling blues album
