Introducing The GibsonLesPaul BFG
w/ Tremolo
The heart of the New Les Paul BFG With Tremolo
remains its ingenious combination of two of Gibson's
most popular pickups of all time. A P-90 in the neck
position yields all the biting, edgy fat single-coil tones
that have made this pickup a favorite since the 1940s.
In the bridge position, a BurstBucker 3 presents classic
PAF-style clarity and depth, with a little extra oomph
when you need it, courtesy of slightly overwound coils,
which are also wax potted to avoid microphonic squeal at
high volume levels. Both pickups are made with genuine
Alnico magnets (Alnico V in the P-90, Alnico II in the BB3), and the pair is routed through a network of independent volume controls, master tone control, three-way toggle switch, and a "kill switch" mounted in the usual upper-bout selector switch position, handy for dramatic stutter and chopper effects.

Introducing The GibsonUSA Les Paul Studio
Gothic Morte
Popular as a stripped down, no-nonsense rocker since its
introduction in 1983, the Les Paul Studio receives what
might be its most radical rebirth yet in the form of the
new Les Paul Studio Gothic Morte. Brand new from
Gibson USA, the Les Paul Studio Gothic Morte takes the
single-cutaway Les Paul design roaring into the future
even as it approaches its 60th anniversary. Employing a
sustainable new tonewood variety, and carrying Gibson USA's powerful new GEM active humbucking pickupsall dressed in extreme black styling...
A carved maple top is joined to a mahogany body that has been strategically chambered for improved resonance and weight relief, and a solid mahogany neck carved to a comfortable rounded "50's Studio" profile is glued in Gibson's time-tested tradition. The most exciting ingredient of the entire tonewood package, however, is the exotic African Obeche used for the guitar's fingerboard. A dark, dense alternative to Ebony, African Obeche is fully sustainable. As used on the SG Gothic Morte, the African Obeche fingerboard carries no inlays or binding to extend the model's radical styling. In addition to the guitar's Satin Ebony nitrocellulose finish, the Les Paul Studio Gothic Morte wears a black Tune-o-matic bridge with a black stopbar tailpiece, black Grover tuners, and a black Corian nut which has been precision cut on the PLEK for optimum intonation.

- - The Tulsa Sound
The Tulsa Sound is a musical style that originated in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
It's a mix of Rockabilly, Country, Rock 'n' Roll, and Blues sounds of the late 1950s and early 1960s. Tulsa Sound artists include JJ Cale, Rocky Frisco, Leon Russell, Elvin Bishop, Roger Tillison, Gene Crose, David Gates, Dwight Twilley, The Gap Band, Jim Byfield, Clyde Stacy, John D. Levan, Bill Pair, The Zigs (previously The Notions), and Don White.
The first appearance of note by a Tulsa Sound musician was Rocky Frisco's Columbia Harmony vinyl album "The Big Ten" under the name "Rocky Curtiss and the Harmony Flames." The album was recorded in New York at Columbia's studio at 33rd and 3rd Street in 1959 during a time when Rocky lived in Pennsylvania. Clyde Stacy was one of the first, if not the first, Tulsa Sound musician to score a nationally charted record, {Hoy Hoy b/w So Young}. This was actually a double sided hit released by Candlelight Records in 1957. Don Wallace, a popular Tulsa disc jockey, was instrumental in landing the recording contract for Clyde. Members of the NiteCaps during that period were John D. Levan, Rick Eilerts and Bill Torbet. John D. Levan was one of the first Tulsa lead guitarist having played for both Clyde Stacy in 1955, and Gene Crose 1956, then again with Stacy in 1957. Levan was inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame in Aug. 2004 along with Tulsa Radio Personality "rockin' John Henry.
Leon Russell was the first member of the Tulsa scene to make inroads into the L.A. music scene, playing for Ricky Nelson along with James Burton.
He then joined Phil Spector's Wrecking Crew and then produced Garry Lewis and Jan & Dean. Russell brought many Tulsans out to Los Angeles including Jimmy Karstein, Bill Raffensperger, Tommy Tripplehorn, Carl Radle, and Larry Bell. Russell was later co-owner of the Church Studio in Tulsa and of Shelter Records, which signed a number of significant Tulsa Sound artists.
When Leon ownedTulsa's Colony Bar - Back in the 70's,...Then a Go-Go Bar - Clapton was known to occasionally drop in, as well as George Harrison, and play a few songs over in the corner,...
- - Influence of the Tulsa Sound
on other musicians
Eric Clapton was the most prominent non-Tulsa artist associated with the Tulsa sound. For ten years, Clapton's band consisted of Tulsans; Carl Radle on bass, organist Dick Sims and drummer Jamie Oldaker. During that time, Clapton was a frequent performer at a variety of venues in the Tulsa area.
In his review of Clapton's 1978 album Backless, critic Robert Christgau wrote,
"Whatever Eric isn't anymore . . . he's certainly king of the Tulsa sound."
In addition to Clapton, Cale's influence has been cited by Mark Knopfler, among others. His songs have been recorded by many artists, including Clapton, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Deep Purple, The Allman Brothers Band, Johnny Cash, The Band, Santana, Captain Beefheart, and Bryan Ferry.
The songs of Tulsan Elvin Bishop have often been covered by other artists, including Starship. Taj Mahal had two Tulsans in his band: Chuck Blackwell and Gary Gillmore, and one Oklahoma City native, Jesse Ed Davis.
Music journalist John Wooley and others have noted that the Tulsa Sound has directly and indirectly contributed to various other genres of music, including genres outside of rock music like alt-country andRed Dirt music.

The Eric Clapton 1960 Gibson Les Paul
Eric Clapton's original 1960 Les Paul Standard is legendary
for not one, but several significant reasons. Clapton's playing on John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers' "Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton" album of 1966 (forever after known as "The Beano Album" because Clapton himself was reading a Beano comic book in the LP's cover photo) is seminal blues-rocksearing, dynamic and ferocious. While anonymous street artists famously scrawled "Clapton is God" on the walls and train stations of London, the virtuosic ex-Yardbird brought the mighty sunburst Les Paul roaring back to popular music. One listen to the creamy, yet biting snarl of Clapton's playing on tracks like "Hideaway," "Double Crossin' Time," or "Key to Love," and countless guitarists the world over were instantly turned on to the power of this rare, and previously underappreciated, Gibson solidbody electric guitar.
Virtually overnight, the single-cutaway Les Paul (deleted from the Gibson catalog after 1960 and redesigned to the double-cutaway SG body shape) was a "must-have" for any serious guitarist who wanted to make their mark on musicleaving a lasting impact on the history of rock and blues.
That is the exalted side of the "Beano Burst" legend. The tragic side of the tale is that this groundbreaking instrument was stolen from the artist later in 1966, while Clapton was rehearsing with Cream for the band's first tour, and was never recovered. Now, for the first time ever, Gibson Custom and Eric Clapton have teamed up to revisit one of the most legendary Les Paul Standards, a guitar produced in honor of an iconic instrument lost to the public eye for nearly 45 years.
The Gibson Custom Shop Eric Clapton 1960 Les Paul has been created with the close personal cooperation of the artist, and with painstaking reference to available photographs. Clearly there are special challenges in creating a guitar based on one that no longer exists, but this strictly Limited Edition instrument accurately represents what Eric Clapton personally feels his 1960 Les Paul should be. Every component in the buildincluding grain pattern and finish color, neck profile and feel, pickups, and morehas been personally approved by Clapton through several iterations from Gibson Custom so that, ultimately, this guitar comes as close as possible to recreating the hallowed '60 Burst as it exists today in the mind of this legendary artist.
The Eric Clapton 1960 Les Paul will be produced in extremely restricted numbers: 55 guitars will be hand-aged by renowned finishing expert Tom Murphy, and hand-signed by Clapton himself (with Clapton keeping the first 5 guitars). A further 95 guitars will be Murphy-aged, and 350 guitars will be finished with Gibson's Vintage Original Spec (VOS) treatment. All 500 guitars will display striking characteristics of the artist's original 1960 Les Paul Standard, including the subtly figured maple top with luscious Antiquity Burst finish, period-correct hardware (including Clapton's own upgrade to Grover tuners), and two of Gibson's finest reproduction PAF-style humbucking pickups.
In short, this is the closest we will ever come to recovering this long-lost rock legend, a cornerstone of blues-rock history. Surely one of the most collectible artist's guitars Gibson Custom has ever produced, the Limited Edition 1960 Eric Clapton Les Paul is bound to go fast, so secure yours now at your authorized Gibson Dealer.

'Revelator' is the long-awaited, song-oriented debut album by the husband-wife team of singer/guitarist Susan Tedeschi and guitarist Derek Trucks.
Filled with smoky, blues-dipped rockers and heart-stilling
ballads that show off, respectively, the gutsier and softer side of Tedeschi's vocal ability, plus a series of emotive,
story-telling solos shaped by Trucks's uncanny agility on
slide-guitar. Most notably, Revelator features the newly formed Tedeschi Trucks Band, an eleven-member ensemble
overflowing with talent and musical familiarity.
Brothers Oteil Burbridge (noted for his years as
bassist with the Allman Brothers Band) and Kofi Burbridge
(longtime keyboardist/flutist with The Derek Trucks Band)
have joined forces with a pair of drummers J. J. Johnson
and Tyler Greenwell, trumpeter Maurice Brown,
tenor saxophonist Kebbi Williams, trombonist Saunders Sermons, and harmony singers Mark Rivers and Mike Mattison. (Additionally, Ryan Shaw and David Ryan Harris supplied harmony vocals to various tracks on the album, and Alam Khan adds his masterful sarod playing to "These Walls".) The fact that this aggregation includes so many musicians related by experience and blood clearly adds to the notion of Revelator as a true group album, the product of a musical family.

JJ Cale (also J.J. Cale), born John Weldon Cale on
December 5, 1938, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, is a Grammy Award-winning American singer-songwriter
and musician. Cale is one of the originators of the
Tulsa Sound, a loose genre drawing on blues, rockabilly,
country, and jazz influences. Cale's personal style has
often been described as "laid back".
His only U.S. hit single, Crazy Mama, peaked at #22 on
the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1972. During the 2006 documentary film To Tulsa and Back Cale recounts the story of being offered the opportunity to appear on
Dick Clark's American Bandstand to promote the song,
which would have moved the song higher on the charts.
Cale declined when told he could not bring his band to
the taping and would be required to lip-sync the words
to the song.
His songs have been performed by a number of other
musicians including "After Midnight" and "Cocaine" by
Eric Clapton, "Bringing It Back" by Kansas,
"Call Me the Breeze" and "I Got the Same Old Blues"
by Lynyrd Skynyrd, "Travelin' Light" and "Ride Me High"
by Widespread Panic.

The rock world lost one of its great performers yesterday with the passing of guitar legend Gary Moore. Moore died while on vacation in the town of Estepona in the Costa del Sol region of southern Spain. He was 58 years old.

Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Moore first made his mark in the hard rock band, Skid Row (not to be confused with the later band). Inspired by the fiery blues playing of Albert King, Jimi Hendrix and Peter Green (who took Moore under his wing when the young Irishman was breaking in), Moore combined the feel and subtlety of the finest blues players with the speed and intensity of hard rock’s heaviest hitters.
Moore followed Skid Row with an on-again-off-again romance with Thin Lizzy. His friendship with Phil Lynott and Brian Downey stretched back to his school days, and he would play with Ireland’s favorite band off and on for nine years, contributing to some of the group’s best-loved songs, including “Still in Love with You,” “Sarah” and “Waiting for an Alibi.” He also recorded three albums with the jazz-fusion band Colosseum II during the same period.
As a solo artist, Moore had two successful careers, both as a hard rock hero with albums like Back on the Streets, Corridors of Power and Victims of the Future and, later, as a bluesman on albums like Still Got the Blues, After Hours and Back to the Blues.
